Cornotope!

Grasping for an update with this one. I’ve been in a bit of a rut lately, just not much time for drawing. So behold the fruits of the Monday Morning Meeting™.

Garbage In, Garbage Out

GIGO

I’m finding inking in Manga Studio to be increasingly difficult (there’s a reason I’m not posting that drawing any larger than I am). I like the program but I just can’t seem to get the hang of a tablet. At least not compared to good old pen and ink. Too slippery! No tactile feedback! Not gonna replace the real thing for me, but hopefully will save me some headaches now and then. Maybe I should try a different nib.

Wait a minute, how did I forget to draw the keyboard?

Update! Some tweakmaxing.

Doodles for Feb. 10 – Dishing Out Failsafe Superlative

Coin operated boat blower

No posts for 12 days??? I should be shot! Burned alive! My crispy remains should be consumed by a boar drilling god molester! I guess I should just stop all this designing and get back to drawing. Well maybe I’ll do that when I have some free time. Until then, it’s back to computers!!!

Doodles for Jan. 21 – The Heat From Your Physique

Perhaps I should start modifying my post title system to include images that aren’t quite “doodles.” Yeah right, that’s boring.

Keller TV

The above image is actually a photo of the drawing on my computer monitor. I’ve been struggling with getting a nice cold and dirty feel to the image, so I figured that would be a good experiment. This is it straight from Photoshop:

I do think I prefer the washed-out color of the photographed version. If you want to download a desktop version, you can get either the normal one or the photographed one.

Doodles for Jan. 9 – Atom Smashing Machine

This rough dude is based on a frame from the same movie the previous two illustrations are from. I’ll give a banana from Barcelona to whoever can tell me what that movie is.

I’m still working on my general figure drawing. One of my biggest weaknesses is a very poor ability to capture that inherent weight, movement and essence of a figure… that look where everything is just nailed down tight, heavy, solid, in motion. Most of my stuff just ends up floaty with a sense of disconnect instead of direction.

I’m hoping that doing more quick, gestural drawings will help me to improve on this. It’s a total change in style and thinking for me though and is definitely taking some getting used to.
